Welcome to the Music page for Mokapu Elementary School. Here at Mokapu, our music education program has a strong basis in the Kodály (koh - die) curriculum, which focuses on teaching music literacy through the use of singing (folk songs, singing games, etc) and art music. During your child's time at Mokapu, they will be led through a sequential curriculum that will teach them the elements of rhythm, pitch, form and texture. They will sing, move, create and perform. As they grow in their literacy, they will also do projects and activities where they will improvise or create their own music. Students are assessed on both the state and the National Core Music Standards.
Mokapu Elementary has an annual Winter Program, typically during the last week of school in December, and a bi-annual May Day and musical (alternating). Due to the size of our community here at Mokapu, our programs are held during the morning hours in order to have space to house our families. Programs are also live-streamed for deployed parents and relatives that are not on island. We look forward to sharing with you soon.
