Additional Educational Help RTI (Response to Intervention)
At Mokapu our teachers are constantly monitoring their students progress, but when patterns of weaknesses are observed we meet as an Educational Team to determine just what a student needs to move forward.
Response to Intervention (RTI) is a research-based, multi-step approach to help struggling learners. The program offers earlier, more relevant help for students who are at risk of developing learning problems or simply are falling behind. What is RTI? RTI begins with quality classroom instruction in core curriculum. Student progress is closely monitored at each stage to determine the need for further research-based instruction and/or interventions.
RTI provides intense instruction matched to student needs.
Student progress is closely and frequently monitored.
Progress is measured by comparing expected and actual learning rates.
Based on these measures, instruction is adjusted to respond to specific needs.
How does RTI affect your child?
Students are identified during a screening process as needing extra assistance in reading and math.
Students are further assessed to define the intensity of the remediation (or extra instruction) required to bring them up to grade level.
A plan is developed for individual students.
Individual students receive specialized remedial lessons designed to meet their areas of need.
Students are revaluated at 10 weeks to ensure they are making progress.
3-Tier Model RTI uses a 3-Tier (or step) model of school supports that uses research-based academic and/or behavior interventions. At all stages of the process, RTI focuses on discovering how to make the student more successful rather than the student’s lack of success.
Screening determines whether students are meeting grade level standards and are identifies as “benchmark” (on target), “strategic” (slightly behind), or “intensive” (one or more grades behind).
